Volunteering Opportunities

Important!

If you decided to volunteer at one of the organizations shown in this page, please click this button!
Special Olympics

Special Olympics

"Special Olympics is a global sports movement that is life-changing for everyone."

At Special Olympics, millions of those with IDD participate in sports at competitions (including track, soccer, golf, and many more), unified sports, and events like polar plunge.

What can you do at Special Olympics?

As a volunteer, you can take on one (or more!) of these roles: coaches, trainers, officials, event organizers, fundraisers and managers.

At Overlake Best Buddies, members took part in marshalling at track competitions, served as referee at soccer games, and more. If you want to know more about our experience, reach out to us in the Contact Us tab!

Camp Prime Time

Camp Prime Time

"Camp Prime Time is the only Camp in Washington State where disabled or seriously/terminally ill children, and their families, can enjoy the beauty of Clear Lake."

*Camp Prime Time only operates in Washington as of August 2025

What can you do at Camp Prime Time?

Volunteers are the core of Camp Prime Time. They help the camps, work parties, and fundraisers run smoothly and provide support.

You can also serve as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and other specialized trades.

At fundraisers, you can volunteer at Prime Time biennial Dinner and Auction fundraising event to help the events run smoothly!

Overlake Best Buddies volunteered here at overnight camps as faculty. If you want to know more about our experience, please reach out to us in the Contact Us tab!

Global Down Syndrome Foundation (GDSF)

Global Down Syndrome Foundation (GDSF)

"The Global Down Syndrome Foundation is a public non-profit 501(c)(3) dedicated to significantly improving the lives of people with Down syndrome through Research, Medical care, Education and Advocacy."

What can you do at GDSF?

If you are a trained translator, you can help translate materials such as website pages, pamphlets, brochures and/or educational materials.

Though the in-person volunteers for GDSF are active only in Colorado, you can volunteer at your local Down Syndrome organization. They can be found here:

And of course, Best Buddies International!

Start your own chapter at your school or company!

Overlake Best Buddies is a friendship chapter, where we match someone with IDD with someone who does not have IDD for a one-on-one friendship! We also do activities to raise awareness. This can be you!

Best Buddies offers other programs as well, such as the Jobs program that helps those with IDD become employed and find jobs; the Living program that helps those with IDD become independent and live with others who do not have IDD.

If you want more information about any of these programs/making your own chapter, please feel free to reach out to us through the button below.
